Biochar projects and references
We work with biochar across the entire value chain – from feasibility studies and business models to testing, implementation and carbon removal.

Strategy & feasibility studies
Decision support for investments in biochar.
With 15 years of experience and 30+ completed feasibility studies, we help organizations evaluate production, markets, and business models — from idea to a viable strategy.

Testing & verification
Laboratory and pilot-scale testing to understand how biochar performs in practice.
We conduct leaching tests, cultivation trials, and develop new applications — including PFAS removal from water.

Urban systems & applications
Biochar in real-world environments – from planting beds to urban development.
We work with soils, nutrient flows, and systems solutions to create sustainable urban applications.
Below is a selection of projects demonstrating our breadth and experience:

PFAS-TESTing
From adsorption to circular solutions
Development of a circular filtration solution for PFAS-contaminated water in collaboration with Biokolprodukter, research partners and end users. The work includes batch and column tests, filter design and regeneration of biochar.

The Carbon Contract
A marketplace for Swedish carbon removals
Development of a Swedish platform connecting companies with certified carbon removals from biochar production – a practical tool for climate action.

Sewage sludge biochar
From waste to resource
Analysis of the potential of sewage sludge biochar in Sweden, based on a case study with Roslagsvatten. Includes technical conditions, market analysis and business models for water utilities. Published by Svenskt Vatten.

STOCKHOLM BIOCHAR PROJECT
One of the world’s first large-scale urban biochar facilities
We contributed to developing a concept that is now being replicated internationally as a model for circular waste management and carbon removal.

URSOILL
EU project on the future of urban soils
The project develops and demonstrates solutions for sustainable urban soils in European cities. We contribute biochar expertise and test how the material can improve functionality and sustainability in urban soil systems.

LEACHING TESTS
Evaluating nutrient flows in urban soils
Controlled testing in collaboration with Swedish cities to assess nutrient leaching from growing media, including how biochar influences performance and sustainability in urban environments. Read the report (Swedish).
